Shudan and zain are both elegant ways to describe chess playing. Different kinds of chess match take place in different time and place. Two stories from the first person perspective construct a non-interference dialectical thinking. The social and political reality of small town are being probed through it.

Preface/Miki TO
I learned about the master of the game of GO Mr. Wu Qingyuan’s story from a friend while studying in school. Though I know nothing about the game of GO, I remember his dramatic life very well. Therefore, when I was invited by BOK Festival to write a play, I used the Go game as a metaphor for a social movement story. The master match between Mr. Wu Qingyuan and Meijin Honinbō Shūsai naturally is my top choice. This, is the beginning of this creation.
After one year, we now have chance to represent Moderation. The story is the same yet the life isn’t. What would be the point to tell an old story again now? However, when we read the script over and over again in rehearsal room, the persistence and the longing to get beyond the boundaries and be free appear. If the meaning is the must to ask, I guess the answer would be like what they say: Remember where you came from. Moderation won’t be able to grow and develop into a relatively complete work without the support from BOK Festival. I appreciate all the help given by so many people, especially the production team as well as everyone in this performance. It’s your hard work to make this performance possible. I also would like to thank my mentors and friends. Thank you for your selfless support and encouragement. Words fail to convey my gratitude.
